CensusMapper

The CensusMapper grew out of the Vancouver Census Map and was jointly developed with Alejandro Cervantes.

We felt that the wealth of data from the Canada Census was not being tapped into enough when discussing civic questions in Vancouver, and the same is probably true for other areas of Canada.

Census data can be tricky to understand and interpret, and making the data more accessible also invites more abuse of the data. With the decision to drop the long form census and replace it with the voluntary NHS this problem worsened quite a bit. Nonetheless we felt that it would profit greatly from becoming more accessible to people without the grit and the technical mapping skills required to access the data and make sense of it.
